Gratuity a 12 ans, un nom très étrange et surtout un objectif : retrouver sa mère enlevée par les aliens. Et lorsqu'on habite, comme elle, dans un pays envahi par les Boov, d'étranges extraterrestres à huit pattes, c'est plus facile à dire qu'à faire. Surtout que les envahisseurs ont non seulement renommé notre chère planète bleue Smekland mais aussi décidé de parquer toute la population dans une réserve naturelle d'humains : la Floride. Et les oranges, ça a du bon, mais seulement pendant un temps. À bord de sa voiture volante et accompagnée de son chat Porky et d'un Boov recherché par les siens, l'adolescente va traverser les États-Unis, déclencher un mouvement de résistance, et peut-être, en chemin, déjouer plus d'une invasion alien...
