Le livre de Roberto Donati analyse ce film dans le détail, scène après scène, plan après plan, pour en faire ressortir toutes les particularités et les éléments novateurs. Un ouvrage essentiel, non seulement pour les inconditionnels de Leone, mais pour tous les amateurs de cinéma, surtout de cinéma américain qui doit tant à ce réalisateur de génie.
