Michel Vianey dresse un portrait de Jean-Luc Godard à la fois tendre et espiègle. Venu couvrir le tournage du Mépris pour L'Express, Vianey décide de faire, de JLG, un livre. Il le suit, interroge Anna Karina, puis s'arrête longuement sur le tournage du film Masculin féminin (1966). Jean-Pierre Léaud, Chantal Goya ou Marlène Jobert y côtoient Brigitte Bardot, le chef opérateur Willy Kurant, la monteuse Agnès Guillemot, sans oublier un assistant réalisateur nommé Pascal, et qui n'est autre que Pascal Aubier.
