Avec ce nouveau livre, Pulsions, accompagné d'un texte de Dominique Janvier, François Fontaine poursuit, après Icônes son précédent livre paru chez le même éditeur, son exploration du 7e art au moyen de photographies réalisées à partir de films projetés sur écran. Exploration du 7e art et exploration du désir et de sa mise en images vives ou troubles, lumineuses ou obscures, flamboyantes. François Fontaine met ainsi en lumières "le choc doux des corps, leurs jeux exaspérés" en empruntant pour que l'on s'y perde à loisir "le labyrinthe du désir".
