Los Angeles. Septembre 1921. Acteur et réalisateur, Roscoe Arbuckle, dit "Fatty", est au sommet de sa gloire. Plus connu que Charlie Chaplin et Buster Keaton réunis, il est le premier acteur à gagner un million de dollars par an. Mais l'Amérique puritaine souhaite moraliser Hollywood et voit d'un très mauvais œil la vie "de débauche" de Roscoe. Dans quelques jours, la fête qu'il a organisée va virer au drame et le plonger au cœur du premier grand scandale hollywoodien... Les studios, les ligues de vertu, les tabloïds, et toute l'Amérique se lieront contre lui. Mais Roscoe pourra toujours compter sur son ami Buster Keaton.
