Un roman, proche du pamphlet, pour dénoncer la main prépondérante de la finance et du mauvais goût sur le cinéma français de l'entre-deux-guerres au détriment de la qualité et des bons auteurs. Tout le milieu malsain du cinéma est mis en scène dans ces "mésaventures d'une traite": "cet itinéraire décrit la jungle financière de certains milieux cinématographiques..."
