Débutant par une analyse de sa période primitive et croisant les liens entre colonisation britannique, ethnicité et développement de "l'aventure cinématographique", cette étude invite à découvrir la naissance et l'évolution du cinéma au Sri Lanka de 1896 à 1966. Ce premier volume couvre la période de 1896 à 1928, interrogeant le rôle de la Grande-Bretagne et de l'Inde dans la mise en place de l'infrastructure cinématographique sri-lankaise, ainsi que les sources d'inspiration de ce cinéma.
