Voici réunis dans ce recueil quatorze textes inédits autour d'un cinéaste franco-polonais passé maître dans l'art d'adapter les livres pour les films, du Bébé de Rosemary en 1968 à Oliver Twist en 2005, en passant par Le Locataire (1976) ou encore Tess (1979). Le but de cet ouvrage est d'éclairer certains choix du cinéaste, de mieux cerner la (relative) fidélité polanskienne envers les romans, et de saisir un metteur en scène encore aujourd'hui si difficile à identifier.
