Ce livre dresse un panorama inédit de la richesse et de la diversité de la création cinématographique et audiovisuelle à Madagascar. Dans un contexte de production souvent difficile, ces films relaient les espoirs et les doutes d'une société tiraillée entre son attachement profond à l'héritage traditionnel et sa volonté de s'intégrer à la mondialisation. La mise en lumière de ce patrimoine méconnu pose aussi la question de la représentation de soi et de l'autre et propose une réflexion sur l'importance de l'image dans l'expression de la culture malgache contemporaine.

Karine Blanchon est docteur en Lettres, diplômée de l'Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) à Paris. Elle travaille sur les cinémas de l'océan Indien occidental.
