Avec dix films et un feuilleton télévisé, Maurice Pialat s’est inscrit dans le monde du cinéma. Malheureusement, sa notoriété a souvent été liée à sa provocation devant un public cannois hostile, lors de la remise de la Palme d’or pour Sous le soleil de Satan.
Cinq critiques ont ici tenu, non à lui rendre hommage, mais à étudier son œuvre à travers les thèmes de l’amour, du désir, des femmes, de l’enfance, de la peinture et de l’art en général. Son cinéma est traversé de fulgurances et de personnages inoubliables. C’est dire que ses films s’inscrivent dans l’histoire du cinéma français en évoquant Jean Renoir ou Jean Eustache.
Avec une préface de René Prédal, ce livre pourra intéresser étudiants et cinéphiles qui aimeraient mieux le connaître à travers ses courts-métrages ainsi que ses premiers films comme L’enfance nue.
