80 années séparent l'étincelle initiale, de ce qui deviendra La Grande Illusion, de la réapparition du film aujourd'hui dans une copie tirée de son négatif original miraculeusement ressurgi. Presqu'un siècle, presque l'âge du cinéma. Et à travers l'histoire du film se relit la vie de Jean Renoir mais aussi celle du cinéma et de plusieurs grandes illusions de notre 20ème siècle. Inspirée par la guerre, La Grande Illusion l'aura vécue au moins autant que ces personnages. Pour nous Français, Allemands, Européens peut-être, La Grande Illusion est bien, si un film peut l'être, le film d'un siècle.
