Roger Soubie a dessiné dans sa vie plus de 1500 affiches de cinéma. Peut être 2000 ? Il n'en connaissait pas lui-même le compte exact. Mais sur la base d'une affiche par semaine et de quarante ans de métier, l'estimation est vraisemblable.
Dans la profession, on l'appelait « l'Américain », parce qu'il a surtout travaillé pour Universal, MGM, Paramount, Fox, Warner et RKO. Il faisait partie, avec ses amis René Peron et Bernard Lancy, d'une génération d'artisans qui créaient des affiches comme l'eau va à la fontaine…
