En été 1972, à la Cinémathèque française, Kinugasa Teinosuke (1896-1982) présentait en première vision européenne un film qu'il avait réalisé en 1926, Kurutta Ichipeiji (Une page folle). Il en montra une version sonorisée, en 16mm, qui circula dès lors dans toute l'Europe, au Canada et aux Etats-Unis, dans les festivals et les circuits non-commerciaux, provoquant la surprise et l'enthousiasme de la critique. Considéré comme perdu à la suite d'un incendie, le cinéaste en avait retrouvé fortuitement le négatif original en 1971…
