Son aïeul John Bost a fondé une institution qui aujourd'hui gère 75 établissements qui accueillent des handicapés dans la grande tradition spirituelle et avant-gardiste de son inventeur. Ses descendants se sont signalés dans la culture (chanson – Renaud), au cinéma ou dans la pensée (le "petit" Bost fut l'amant de Simone de Beauvoir et l'ami de Sartre). De nombreux Bost s'inscrivent dans une généalogie intellectuelle et spirituelle que ce livre fait ressortir à l'occasion du 200e anniversaire en 2017 de John Bost.
