Le livre raconte un parcours de rencontres et d’entretiens entre Clint Eastwood et le journaliste Jean-Paul Chaillet, depuis 1987 jusqu’au dernier, très récent, Juré numéro 2. Des conversations éclairantes qui ponctuent – à travers les propres mots d’Eastwood – les décennies de sa pleine maturité artistique : la genèse de ses films (dont des chefs-d’oeuvre comme Mystic River et Million Dollar Baby), les pratiques concrètes de son métier d’acteur et de réalisateur, sa poétique d’auteur et sa propre philosophie de vie. Avec un regard réfléchi jeté également sur sa saison cruciale de « western », viatique pour la gloire que lui a assurée la célèbre « Trilogie du Dollar » de Sergio Leone.

Jean-Paul Chaillet est journaliste et vit à Los Angeles depuis 1990. Il a été le correspondant permanent du magazine Première, puis collaborateur régulier du Figaro, du Figaro Magazine, de Transfuge et d’autres publications. Il est membre émérite des Golden Globes. Il est le co-auteur de Francis Ford Coppola (Edilig, 1982) et d’une biographie de Somerset Maugham (Séguier, 2014).
