Pathé Films - zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts die größte Filmausstattungs- und -produktionsfirma der Welt. Der Name Pathé ist bis heute im Filmgewerbe zu finden. Gegründet wurde die Firma von den 4 Brüdern Pathé.
Suzanne Pathé (1890-1982), Nichte der Medienindustriellen Charles und Émile Pathé, blickt auf eine außergewöhnliche Jugend zurück. Mit knapp dreizehn Jahren begleitet die Französin ihre Eltern nach Berlin. Vater Théophile und Mutter Stéphanie sollen dort eine Filiale der Filmfirma Pathé Frères eröffnen. Als die Geschicke anders verlaufen als erwarten, übernimmt sie mit vierzehn Jahren im Sommer 1905 die Filmvertretung, während die Eltern in Paris ein Filmstudio aufbauen. Die kommentierte Ausgabe ihrer Memoiren zeigt die Sicht eines Teenagers auf ihren Alltag in Paris und Berlin. Ihr Erwachsenenleben in Danzig mit ihrem jüdischen Ehemann Arthur, ihre Flucht vor den Nazis, die Emigration in die USA wird von ihrer Enkelin Nouchka Pathé erzählt.
Das Buch vermittelt einen einzigartigen und dazu weiblichen Blick auf die französische und deutsche Frühzeit der Kinematographie.
In einem zweiten Teil bietet es die erstmals aufgearbeitete Geschichte des vergessenen Filmpioniers Théophile Pathé

Suzanne Pathé, fille de Théophile Pathé, a treize ans quand elle part en 1903 à Berlin avec ses parents qui vont y représenter la firme Pathé frères, fondée par ses oncles Charles et Émile. Lorsqu’en 1905 un conflit éclate entre Théophile et ses frères, le père de Suzanne rentre à Paris pour créer sa propre maison de production. Suzanne, bien qu’encore mineure, prend dès lors en mains la direction de l’agence berlinoise, ce qui était possible sous la législation allemande. Dans ses souvenirs, écrits dans les années 1960, publiés ici pour la première fois dans une traduction annotée en allemand, elle raconte l’histoire de son enfance et de sa jeunesse en France et en Allemagne jusqu’en 1907, année où elle rentre à Paris. En plus de la traduction des souvenirs de Suzanne, on trouvera dans ce livre une étude extensive par Sabine Lenk sur l’histoire des firmes de Théophile Pathé ainsi qu’une liste des films qu’il a vendus en Allemagne, en France et aux États-Unis.
