Cinq personnages : un comptable sans ambition, fier de sa virilité ; sa sœur, fidèle, attentionnée mais s'éloignant peu à peu ; une femme intelligente et futée qui fera de cet homme sans ambition un cinéaste reconnu ; un couple d'hommes : l'un très riche, sur la fin de sa vie ; l'autre, cinéphile averti.
Cinq personnages donc qui correspondent entre eux, deux par deux, pour traduire l'évolution de leurs sentiments. Chaque phrase peut être sincère ou mensongère mais trahit inévitablement celle ou celui qui l'écrit. Comment démêler le vrai du faux ? Au lecteur de s'en charger.
