Au fur et à mesure des chapitres, l'intensité de l'échange devient telle que la biographie se métamorphose en un roman vibrant, en une aventure même au sein d'un "Palais baroque à l'architecture mouvementée".
Orson Welles, monstre génial qui a marqué d'une empreinte profonde l'histoire du 7ème art, se montre tour à tour sensible et généreux, seul et tourmenté. Il entre en contradiction avec sa légende établie, hésite, plonge, se perd, remonte...
On assiste au combat d'un homme en quête d'identité, piégé par sa propre énigme et qui finit par se reconnaître "tanguant comme un saule dans le blizzard".
