Marcel Pagnol avait l'habitude de recevoir chez lui, à l'heure de l'apéritif, quelques fidèles, un peu comme en province au Café des Amis. Henri Jeanson, Marcel Achard, Gaston Bonheur, Tino Rossi, Raymond Castans s'y retrouvaient régulièrement. Et ils écoutaient parler leur hôte. Pagnol évoquait des souvenirs. Il racontait des anecdotes. Il portait des jugements. On connaît sa verve. On sait quel merveilleux conteur il était. Raymond Castans, merveilleux conteur lui aussi, se souvient de ces fins d'après-midi. Et c'est Pagnol tout entier qu'il fait revivre, avec la mémoire du cœur.
