Chacune d'elles est illustrée par une étude de cas, très concrète, empruntée au cinéma américain: le contexte de production de l'Aurore, le passage au parlant, le rôle du star system, etc. Enfin traduit en français, Faire l'histoire du cinéma comporte des illustrations et bibliographies, tant américaines que françaises.
