En septembre 2008, Steve Moreau publie son premier roman, Dos à la mer. Quatre ans plus tard, il adapte ce roman pour le cinéma puis, au printemps 2013, réalise et produit son premier long métrage, tiré de cette adaptation au titre éponyme et dont la sortie en France est fixée au 14 janvier 2015. Dos à la mer, la révélation, dans une écriture pleine d'émotion et de déchirement, délivre, enfin et pour la toute première fois, la vérité sur les personnages et les faits réels qui ont ihnspiré le roman, puis le film.
