Cet ouvrage analyse les usages et le statut de l'archive sous les angles esthétique, historique et sociologique. Comment expliquer ce rapprochement entre ces démarches? D'une part, le remploi des archives est l'une des esthétiques parmi les plus actuelles. D'autre part, la nécessité de renouveler les théories au tournant du XXe siècle n'est sans doute pas étrangère à ce retour massif aux archives. A cela il faut ajouter le développement des réseaux sociaux par lesquels leur exploitation est devenue un phénomène de mode.
