L'esprit de Glauber Rocha, le grand cinéaste brésilien, a été celui d'une esthétique de la faim. A travers un tropicalisme mythologique, il tenta d'édifier une cinématographie indépendante des schémas hollywoodiens et européens, revisitant à chaque film, la mémoire colonisée des peuples latino-américains. Associant tradition et modernité, ces deux esthétiques, ces deux éthiques, ces deux totalités, constituèrent un appel à l'action collective tricontinentale contre les dominations impérialistes.
