Sorti en 2005, Lord of war, d'Andrew Niccol, eut un réel succès critique. Le film dresse le portrait d'un homme qui se représente le monde selon les cadres forgés par la société de consommation. Pour le réalisateur, la fin de la Guerre froide et le néolibéralisme permettent aux plus téméraires de réaliser ce qui relevait encore du fantasme. Arnaud LABOMBARDA voit dans ce film l'allégorie de nos pulsions contemporaines, et dans son héros la figure emblématique du gangster international.
