L'exposition se propose de mettre en parallèle des œuvres cinématographiques de Charlie Chaplin et des productions des avant-gardes, mêlant extraits de films, peinture, photographie, sculpture et documents. De la découverte de Charlot par Fernand Léger en 1916, au numéro spécial Disque vert de 1924 consacré à Chaplin, en passant par l'invention du concept de "7e art" par Ricciotto Canudo en 1919, qui identifie immédiatement Chaplin comme le premier artiste du médium, l'intérêt des avant-gardes pour ce nouveau moyen d'expression et particulièrement pour Chaplin permet de souligner de nombreuses porosités. L'exposition présentera des œuvres de Marc Chagall, Fernand Léger, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Meret Oppenheim, Claude Cahun, John Heartfield, Max Ernst...
