Réalisateur, scénariste, compositeur, Carpenter sait tout faire, avec une radicalité et une indépendance d'esprit qui lui porteront préjudice autant qu'elles lui vaudront le respect, voire la dévotion. Retour sur la carrière du pirate à la tignasse blanche, qui a pulvérisé les artifices du rêve américain.
