Billy Wilder (1906-2002) est le plus important réalisateur du cinéma américain. Venant d'Australie, il arrive aux Etats-Unis en 1935 et très vite, son talent est reconnu. Il explore presque tous les genres cinématographiques du film noir jusqu'à la comédie romantique. On se souviendra de Sunset Boulevard, Witness for the Prosecution, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment et Love in the Afternoon.
