Kevin Brownlow est historien du cinéma. Dès l'âge de onze ans, il a commencé à collectionner des films muets. Auteur de nombreux ouvrages, notamment de The Parade's Gone By ; The War, the West and the Wilderness ; Behind the Mask of Innocence ; Hollywood : The Pioneers ; et Napoléon : Abel Gance's Classic Film, Kevin Brownlow a restauré plusieurs films ont le plus célèbre demeure Napoléon d'Abel Gance. II est également réalisateur de documentaires, y compris Chaplin inconnu (co-réalisé par David GUI) et plus récemment, The Tramp and the Dictator
