Impossible de résumer Huit et demi, authentique chef-d œuvre du cinéma considéré comme un blasphème à sa sortie en 1963. Projection des démons intérieurs du maestro à mi-vie, il demeure une énigme et continue d'inspirer nombre de films d'« auteur ». Ce livre donne les clés qui ouvrent sur l'univers personnel d'un magicien qui jongle avec ses souvenirs et sa « mauvaise éducation ». Il nous apprend d'ailleurs que Federico Fellini avait écrit et filmé une autre fin.

D.A. Miller est professeur de cinéma et de littérature anglophone à l'université de Californie à Berkeley. Il collabore régulièrement à la revue Film Quarterly.
