Marlon Brando (1924-2004) est une figure emblématique de l'histoire du cinéma américain. A l'occasion de sa disparition en 2004, le New York Times rendait hommage au "prodige rebelle qui électrisa une génération et transforma à jamais l'art du jeu d'acteur ; une présence réellement révolutionnaire". De ses débuts remarqués dans Un tramway nommé Désir (1951) à ses performances mythiques dans Le Parrain (1971) et Apocalypse Now (1979), Brando, qui a travaillé avec de grandes stars de cinéma comme Elizabeth Taylor et Al Pacino, et des réalisateurs tels qu'Elia Kazan, John Huston et Francis Ford Coppola, est devenu une véritable référence pour les acteurs contemporains.
