Woody Allen (Etats-Unis, 1935) compte depuis les années 1970 parmi les plus célèbres réalisateurs de comédies. A la fois scénariste, cinéaste et acteur, il brosse dans ses films le portrait archétypal de l'intellectuel juif new-yorkais cherchant dans la psychanalyse un remède à ses névroses (Manhattan, 1979 ; Harry dans tous ses états, 1997), rôle qui lui a valu un immense succès populaire et la reconnaissance de ses pairs. Délaissant New York pour l'Europe dans les années 2000, il conquiert de nouveaux publics en renouvelant son inspiration et en filmant une jeune génération d'acteurs, parmi lesquels Scarlett Johansson dans Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006) et Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), Owen Wilson dans Minuit à Paris (2011) et Jesse Eisenberg dans Nero Fiddled (2012).
