Livre d’une très grande originalité de propos et de facture, Hollywood Babylone présente toutes les caractéristiques de ce qu’il est aujourd’hui convenu d’appeler un « livre culte ». On pourrait même dire qu’il constitue un prototype du genre. Longtemps resté inédit dans les pays anglo-saxons, et d’abord publié — dans une version embryonnaire — par Jean-Jacques Pauvert à Paris, Hollywood Babylone invente, dès les années 1950, ce qui deviendra au cours des décennies suivantes l’approche « people », voire « trash », de la célébrité et du show-business.

About the Author:
Petit-fils d’une grand-mère costumière à Hollywood, fils de starlette, Kenneth Anger a grandi dans les studios où il fut enfant acteur. Il a toujours collectionné, dans des albums, les coupures de presse révélant la face noire de l’industrie du rêve et du divertissement : débauches, chantages, manipulations, addictions, meurtres. Cette matière fascinante est à l’origine du « work in progress » que Kenneth Anger poursuit depuis maintenant un demi-siècle dans Hollywood Babylone.
