Book Presentation:
Au cours des années 70, Wim Wenders incarne le renouveau du cinéma allemand (avec quelques autres, comme Werner Herzog, Völker Schlöndorf ou Peter Fleischmann). Après deux adaptations littéraires, l’une d’un roman de son ami Peter Handke, L’Angoisse du gardien de but au moment du penalty (1972), l’autre de La Lettre écarlate (1973) de Nathaniel Hawthorne, l’un des ouvrages fondateurs de la littérature nord-américaine, le cinéaste se lance ensuite dans une trilogie relevant du « road-movie » : Alice dans les villes (1974), Faux mouvement (1975) et Au fil du temps (1976).
La véritable consécration publique arrive en 1984, avec le fameux Paris, Texas, film tourné aux Etats-Unis mais à l’européenne, où Wenders renoue avec son genre de prédilection, mais dans une forme très libre et très personnelle. Le film remporte la Palme d’or à Cannes, tandis que Les Ailes du désir (1987), qui marque alors le retour de Peter Handke dans l’univers du cinéaste, remporte le prix du jury.
Entre Europe et Amérique, classicisme et modernité, fiction et documentaire, cinéma et musique, Wim Wenders explore depuis près de 40 ans maintenant toutes les possibilités offertes par le cinéma, dans une œuvre qui est aussi un questionnement permanent sur l’état du monde. Alors que l’on a fêté en 2014 les trente ans de Paris, Texas, la revue Eclipses consacre son 57ème volume à l’œuvre du plus éclectique et cosmopolite cinéaste allemand.
